01 What is Electrostatic flocky (flocking)?
This is a technology that uses static electricity to plant short fibers on a material.
Electrostatic flocking is a processing technology that uses electrostatic charges to fix cut fibers to base materials such as film, paper, cloth, and rubber coated with adhesives.
A familiar example uses the effect of rubbing an inflated balloon and bringing your hair close to it to be pulled by the balloon.
Electrostatic flocking is also called flocking, and flocking refers to short fibers.
02 How does Electrostatic flocky (flocking) work?
Created by placing short fibers in an electric field generated in an enclosed space and piercing the sheet with the force of static electricity and adhesive.
In the method called the "down method," as shown in the figure above, a high-voltage generator is installed at the top to generate an electric field from top to bottom. By placing the pile in the generator, the pile is popped out from the top to the bottom.
By placing a base material with adhesive at the bottom of the pile as it flies downward, the pile is attached to the base material in an erect state, creating a fluffy feeling of electrostatic hair transplantation.
03What's Electrostatic flocky (flocking)
are the advantages?
Excellent anti-reflection and light absorption (control stray light) effects!
With its extremely high anti-reflection performance, it can effectively absorb light of all wavelengths. For this reason, it is often used inside cameras and automobile head-up displays(HUD), where light needs to be controlled. The video on the right shows a comparison of the anti-reflection (light absorption) performance of Vel-Suede's flocky sheets and other materials.
Heat shielding and thermal insulation!
Flocky sheets have not only anti-reflective (light absorption and control stray light) performance, but also have heat insulating effects due to the space created by the fiber (pile). In familiar examples, colored pile is applied to metal parts inside copy machines and metal parts of kotatsu, which become hot and can cause burns if touched by people.
It also has a drip-proof effect against moisture generated by condensation!
The surface area of the flocky material increases.
Therefore, water is easily retained between the fibers and evaporates at a faster rate than with ordinary cloth or non-woven materials. It is used in air conditioner louvers (air outlets) to prevent condensation.
04 Where is Electrostatic flocky (flocking) used?
Electrostatic flocky (flocking) can be used in a variety of situations, regardless of industry!
Electrostatic flocking (flocking) is used for automobile parts such as HUDs (head-up displays) and ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), precision equipment such as cameras, cosmetic containers, stuffed animals, jewelry box decorations, diplomas and albums. It is used in many places, including miscellaneous goods such as covers.
